I.                   How Many and How Much 

1.      Pengertian.

a.       How many dalam bahasa Inggris berarti ‘berapa banyak’ yang digunakan untuk menyatakan benda yang dapat dihitung. 

b.      How Much dalam bahasa Inggris juga berarti ‘berapa banyak’ yang digunakan untuk menyatakan benta yang tidak dapat dihitung.

 

2.      Fungsi

a.       How many : Berfungsi untuk menyatakan benda yang dapat dihitung (countable). Contohnya yaitu : table, pen, pencil, fan, lamp, etc.

b.      How much : berfungsi untuk menyatakan benda yang tidak dapat dihitung (uncountable). Contohnya : milk, rice, flour, coffee, sugar, sald, etc.

How much juga bertfungsi untuk menanyakan harga sebuah barang. Di dalam hal ini, karena uang termasuk benda yang tidak dapat dihitung.

 

3.      Penggunaan dalam kalimat.

a.       How many

-          How many books do you have?

(Berapa banyak buku yang kamu miliki?) karena benda yang digaris bawahi bisa dihitung sehingga harus memakai how many.

-          How many pen do you need?

(Berapa banyak pulpen yang kamu butuhkan?) Karena benda yang digaris bawahi bisa dihitung sehingga memakai how many.

 

b.      How much

-          How much salt do you need?

(Berapa banyak garam yang kamu butuhkan?) Karena benda disana adalah benda yang tidak dapat dihitung sehingga memakai how much.

-          How much coffee do you have?) Karena benda yang digaris bawahi termasuk benda yang tidak dapat dihitung maka memakai how much.

-          How much is your pen?

(Berapa harga pulpenmu? Menanyakan harga sebuah pulpen. Apapun bendanya, jika menanyakan harga harus memakai how much.

-          How much is this book?

(berapa harga buku ini? Menanyakan harga sebuah buku.
